Beaver Moon: The Final Supermoon of 2024
The last supermoon of 2024, Beaver Moon, was seen in the night sky on November 15 at 4:29 PM EST (3:29 AM IST on November 16). It was shine after the Taurid meteor shower and a few weeks before the Leonid meteor shower. One of the bright spots of the year for sky gazers globally.
When to Watch the Beaver Moon
The Beaver Moon was observable from India and most of Asia. It is going to reach its peak brightness at 2:58 AM IST on November 16. To see this best, gaze at dusk after the sun has gone down. Approximately 20-30 minutes after sunset, it will set above the moon, creating the moon illusion, which is an optical effect that gives a view of the moon as much bigger and brighter than it would really be at the time.
Why Is It Called the Beaver Moon?
The name "Beaver Moon" actually comes from the fact that it is a moon of peak beaver time. Beavers are usually busier around this time preparing for the cold weather, building dams, and stockpiling food to survive the winter. In olden days, trappers also set their beaver traps during this time to get furs for warmth.

What Expected from This Supermoon
The Beaver Moon was shining, round disc visible in the night sky, reflecting sunlight but not producing its own. It can make for a stunning view at times, especially shortly after sunset, though brightness could bleach out some of the stars, like the parts of the Pleiades star cluster.
The Beaver Moon is naked-eye accessible, though its extreme brightness may hide dimmer other celestial objects. Greater detail of the appearance will be obtained with a pair of binoculars or through a telescope.
