After Trump’s Election Win, Women Take Vows to Abstain from Sex, What’s 4B Movement?

In response to Donald Trump winning the U.S. presidential election, a rather weird kind of protest has begun from among American women - known as the 4B movement. This movement is found to have originated from South Korea and it is accompanied by resistance against gender discrimination as well as misogyny.
4B Movement, Women Protest Trump’s Win
This movement has spread into the United States where women vowed to boycott four things in total: dating men, marrying men, having sex with men, and giving birth. The 4B protest symbolizes a rejection of some patriarchal norms; it is very much aligned with the political scenario in the U.S.

The 4B movement was actually picked up during the election, especially on abortion rights. So while the pro-Choice supporters felt that restrictions should not be placed on abortion, the proponents of restrictions claimed that this right of women should be banned or limited. Women mainly fueled the movement against Trump and Republicans as they believe in tougher abortion laws. The women have used the 4B protest as a means of protesting the intensified influence of conservative politics in roles of women vis-a-vis their reproductive rights.

The name "4B" is derived from four Korean words, all of which begin with the letter B. They include: Bihon (heterosexual marriage), Bichulson (childbirth), Biyona (dating), and Biseku (sex). Women are asked to leave these four activities as a form of protest. However, some critics assert that the protest could be harming women far more than any of its perceived victims. Some mental health professionals have voiced concerns that, by personal relations as a site of political protest, people may hurt themselves emotionally, as such a protest would seem self-punishing and counterproductive.
